The following are answers to common questions in the Microsoft FrontPage Client Newsgroup:

Unable to connect to FrontPage Editor

Here are methods that worked:

  1. Uninstall fp97
  2. Reboot
  3. Run regedit, make copy of entire registry.
  4. Locate both HKEY...\Software\Microsoft\FrontPage branches and delete them
  5. Find ole2.reg in either c:\windows or c:\windows\system and double-click on it.
  6. Reboot
  7. Install Fp97

I also had to do a couple other things:

  1. Remove every reference to FP97 in the registry (not just the two keys)
  2. Install DCOM95 Install on the C: drive (I was trying to move to E: when this all started)

You can download DCOM95 at:http://www.microsoft.com/oledev/olemkt/oledcom/dcom95.htm

  1. Remove FrontPage through the Control Panel Add\Remove programs.
  2. Delete any files containing the string "fp20*.dll".
  3. Rename both msvcrt40.dll, and mfc40.dll.
  4. Reinstall FrontPage.

If this fails to fix the problem download the OLE update for Windows 95. To download the fix browsing to http://www.microsoft.com/kb/articles/q139/4/32.htm. You'll want to download the file "oelupd.exe".

  1. Uninstall fp97
  2. Reboot
  3. Run regedit, make copy of entire registry.
  4. Locate both HKEY...\Software\Microsoft\FrontPage branches and delete them
  5. Find ole2.reg in ehtier c:\windows or c:\windows\system and double-click on it.
  6. Reboot
  7. Install Fp97
