Technically, it should have no spaces or non-alphanumeric characters.

In terms of where to check for the name (the following came from D.E.Dorgan of Microsoft):

FrontPage will try to determine the DNS name or TCP/IP address in order to assign it to the Personal Web Server.

FrontPage will try use several criteria. They are listed in order:

Open the Control Panel, double-click on the Network icon. Double-click on TCP/IP, click the DNS Configuration tab.
Look for a "hosts" file in Windows(no file extension). Open the file in Notepad.
Computers Identification. Open Control Panel, Network. Click the Identification tab."
